.me domains

July 15th, 2008 by admin

.me domains will be available soon and I want one, oh yes! I don’t know why, but I rather like country tlds. I have a bit of a soft spot for them! So I think I will be buying myself an .me domain in a couple of days!

*blush* Forgot one!

I forgot to add in one more domain. And again, it was free with some hosting, so there! It’s naddion.com. I used to have naddion.co.uk back in the day, but I had to get the .com version instead.

two more domains join the list!

Yes, I’ve been rather bad lately and got myself two more domains. One of them I can justify to myself as being free. As I bought some new hosting. *facepalm* It’s cerulean-sky.com. The other is from an extension I’d always wanted to try, .tk. Not the free one, I actually paid for mine! It’s peach-melba-tk. Bought for not other reason. Well, what reason did I ever need to buy a new domain!

A-Different-Sky.co.uk

I updated ADifferentSky today, adding some fanlistings. It’s not much, but it’s an update! Still having that feeling of being paralysed by too much to do, too much that needs doing and getting all confuzzled as to which bit should go where. I talked myself out of buying peroriaeth.com today. Just. I’m not promising that I won’t ever buy it, but it’s not going to be bought today anyway.

Also, I’m switching my main reseller domain at ResellerZoom from stone-field.net to soup-dragon.org. I never really liked stone-field anyway, and I want to get away from Netrillium, so I’m replacing the few domains I have left with them.

May-I.be

June 29th, 2008 by admin

After all I said in my last post, I’ve just bought another domain.  I’d been thinking about getting may-i.be for a while and spent some time looking around. I found .be domains at 123-reg, but at £15 a year, it seemed a tad high. (Says she who has four .nu domains!) And then I found godaddy sold them for £8.77 a year.

Now, I was put off using Godaddy a while ago because when I tried to buy two domains from them, their paypal link wouldn’t work. I asked them why and it turned out that they had some problems with them. I meant to try again, but found Namecheap instead. I was also put off Godaddy by their rather tacky “Godaddy Girls” thing. I mean, come on. This is the 21st century you know. Their whole push another product selling tactic was also off-putting. I had to wade through a dozen “offers” before I could finally get to the checkout part and pay for the darn domain!

Still, it’s done and I have a nice, shiny .be domain. .be is the domain extension of Belgium, which is kind of apt as I have a whole bunch of relatives who live there. (There’s a whole branch of the family that is Belgian.) It’s the first .be domain I’ve ever bought. (I don’t count that free .be fiasco of a few years ago, when lots of people found they couldn’t actually use their free domains as the registrar was a bit sniffy about allowing nameservers to be changed.)

So there you have it. I have a new domain and I am officially addicted!

Why so many?

June 29th, 2008 by admin

So, why so many domains? That is a good question and probably one that should be asked of my therapist, if I ever got one of those. I wish I knew!

I got my first domain in 2001, serennau.co.uk, as a birthday present from my sister.  If only she knew what she was starting! I loved having my domain, though it only pointed at my Geocities site for a while until I bought hosting. So much so that I bought naddion.co.uk and trugaredd.co.uk soon after. Followed by peroriaeth.co.uk and then it was downhill from then on.

I think, delving into the depths, that I have something of an addictive personality. And while in most folks it tends to lead to alcoholism, or drug addiction, or secret chocolate scoffing, with me, it’s turned into domain addiction. I try to limit myself, I really do. I’ve even let quite a lot of domains go. I keep coming up with good ideas for new domains and then nothing else will do but I have to buy them.

The biggest problem I have is in actually using them. I have lots of personal domains, just take a look. I don’t want to just go on repeating myself over and over again, so I make a genuine effort to having something different in each one. But therein lies the problem. I have a tendency to think of something, and then think, oh, it would go better in that other domain, or that one. And I end up sitting there, paralysed and unable to do anything.

It is funny, I know! And pathetic even. I think I’m going to have to come up with a new strategy. Perhaps I should write something first and then fit it into a domain later. Then I won’t be so contstained with where it’s going to go. That sounds logical. But then, there isn’t anything logical about being addicted to domains!

First past the post!

Hello. My name is Seren and I’m addicted to domains. At the last count, I have 65 domains, give or take the odd one. I don’t know, I lost count!

This is something I’ve meant to do for a while, change my domain collective into a domain collective blog. I wanted somewhere to write about buying domains, building sites etc and it made sense to install wordpress.  If you’ve come here from a site that is affiliated to this one or from a fanlsiting, and are wondering where the whole thing has gone. Just wait a while and I’ll have everything back up, lists of my domains  and the affies and joined pages.

Okay, this is all for now while I set up the pages. Oh, newest domain: neverlandfound.net, which is a fanlisting for the character James Barrie, from the movie “Finding Neverland”.
